Landscaping Services in Salinas, CA
Paso Robles Landscaping designs and builds backyards, patios, artificial turf, decks, pergolas and water-wise front yards in Salinas. Salinas yards deal with steady afternoon wind off the bay, cool foggy mornings and family lots that need to do a lot: room for kids and dogs, a place to eat outside, a garden, and a front yard that looks good without a big water bill. That is the kind of practical, hard-wearing landscape we build. Call 805-712-4440 or request a free estimate.

Salinas Watering Rules Right Now
Homes on Cal Water's Salinas District system follow Cal Water's Water Shortage Contingency Plan. Cal Water reports that all of its customers are in Stage 1, the level it moved to on May 8, 2023 (Cal Water drought page). Under Stage 1, according to Cal Water's watering FAQ and its Schedule 14.1 tariff:
- There's no limit on watering days unless a local ordinance sets one
- Sprinkler watering of ornamental landscape is not allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Zones that use only drip or micro-spray are exempt from those hours, and so is hand watering with a shut-off nozzle
- No watering during or within 48 hours after more than a quarter inch of rain
- No runoff onto sidewalks, streets or neighbors, no hosing down driveways, and fountains must recirculate
- Leaks and broken sprinklers must be fixed within five business days of written notice
That drip exemption is a good reason to put beds on drip and keep spray only where there is lawn. If another water company bills your home, its rules apply instead, and we check them for your address.

Cal Water Rebates and Free Help
Cal Water runs its programs through its online Conservation Portal, where customers confirm what's offered in their district. Programs listed on October 6, 2026 include:
- Lawn-to-garden rebate: a per-square-foot rebate for turning lawn into a water-wise garden. Pre-approval is required before work starts, at least three approved low-water plants are needed per 100 square feet converted, and artificial turf does not qualify
- Smart irrigation controller and high-efficiency sprinkler nozzle rebates for qualified products
- Smart Landscape Tune-Ups: a no-charge irrigation check by a Cal Water contractor in select service areas, for homes with a working system
- Conservation kits with a hose nozzle and indoor fixtures, one per address every three years
Cal Water doesn't list a fixed rebate amount on its public page, so we check the portal with you before design is final. If you want turf for the kids or dogs, we keep it in its own area so the rest of the yard can still qualify.

Street Trees and the Parkway
Salinas City Code Chapter 35, Section 35-9, says no one may trim, root-prune, plant, remove or interfere with a tree, shrub or plant on a street, parkway or alley without written permission from the City's director, and a permit is good for 30 days. Requests to remove a street tree must be in writing with the reason, and sprinkler lines in the middle of a parkway can be subject to City sign-off. If your front-yard plan touches the parkway strip or a street tree's roots, we sort out the City permission before work starts.
Built for Valley Wind and Busy Families
The afternoon breeze dries out exposed beds and pushes on shade structures, so we anchor pergolas and patio covers properly, use mulch and rock heavy enough to stay put, and pick tough, wind-tolerant shrubs and grasses. A covered patio or solid fence panel on the windward side makes outdoor dining comfortable. For busy lots we lean on materials that hold up: concrete and pavers, artificial turf on a compacted, draining base, raised beds for the garden, and decks with low-maintenance railings.

- Stamped or broom-finish concrete patios and side-yard walks

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the watering hours in Salinas?
Cal Water customers are in Stage 1, which prohibits sprinkler watering of ornamental landscape between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. There are no watering-day limits unless a local ordinance sets them. Drip and micro-spray zones are exempt from the hours.
Can I water after it rains?
Not right away. Cal Water prohibits outdoor landscape watering during and within 48 hours after measurable rainfall, which its tariff defines as more than a quarter inch.
Does Cal Water give a rebate for artificial turf?
No. Cal Water states that artificial turf does not qualify for its lawn-to-garden rebate, which requires pre-approval and at least three approved low-water plants per 100 square feet.
Do I need permission to work on the parkway strip?
Yes, for any tree, shrub or plant on a street, parkway or alley. Salinas City Code Section 35-9 requires written permission from the City first.
Do you install artificial turf in Salinas?
Yes. We install turf on a compacted, draining base with secure seams and edges, and we can pair it with drip-irrigated beds so the rest of the yard stays water-wise.
