Landscaping in Garden Farms, CA

Paso Robles Landscaping designs and builds yards in Garden Farms, the small unincorporated community immediately south of Atascadero and west of El Camino Real. Garden Farms has the same hot summers, cold winter nights and oak-covered ground as Atascadero, but its own water district and County permits. We build patios and decomposed granite areas, decks, shade structures, retaining walls, fire features, drip irrigation and low-water planting. Call 805-712-4440 or request a free estimate.

Your Water Comes From Garden Farms CWD

The Garden Farms Community Water District supplies most of the community. San Luis Obispo LAFCO's service review notes that the District was formed by election in 1955 to buy and run the water system a private mutual water company had managed, and that it serves the majority of Garden Farms. If your water comes from the District rather than Atascadero Mutual Water Company, the AMWC turf rebate on our Atascadero page won't apply; ask the District about any current programs. We design for low, predictable water use: drip zones by plant type, a weather-based controller, and lawn only where you'll use it.

Heat, Frost and Oaks

  • Shade first: a pergola or patio cover next to the house makes the yard usable on summer afternoons.
  • Frost-hardy plants: winter nights get cold here, so we choose natives and Mediterranean plants that take both heat and frost.
  • Work around oaks: keep patios, trenching and irrigation out of the root zone, and use gravel or mulch under the canopy instead of lawn.
  • Durable ground cover: decomposed granite, gravel and boulders for paths, parking and play areas.

Permits and Fire Safety

Garden Farms is unincorporated, so building permits go through County Planning & Building, not the City of Atascadero. On rural land, the County's Oak Woodland Ordinance requires a permit to clear-cut an acre or more of oak woodland. Oak and grass country carries wildfire risk; check your address on the State Fire Marshal's FHSZ map, keep the first five feet around the house noncombustible, and see fire-safe landscaping.
