Landscaping in Blacklake, The Woodlands and Cypress Ridge

Paso Robles Landscaping designs and builds yards in the planned communities of the Nipomo Mesa: Blacklake, The Woodlands and Cypress Ridge. These neighborhoods share sandy soil, steady afternoon wind and HOA design review, but each has its own water provider. We build patios and pavers, patio covers and pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, lighting, artificial turf, drip irrigation and low-water planting, and we prepare plans for architectural review. Who Supplies Your Water

The Mesa depends on groundwater, and NCSD, Woodlands Mutual and Golden State Water share supplemental water piped from the City of Santa Maria to reduce pumping. Homes inside the Nipomo Mesa Water Conservation Area can apply to the County's Cash for Grass program for replacing irrigated lawn with approved low-water plants; funding is first-come, first-served, so get approval before removing turf. See lawn replacement and rebates.

Sand, Wind and HOA Review

  • Sandy soil: amended planting pockets, slow drip, and paver bases with fabric, compacted aggregate and solid edges so they stay flat.
  • Wind: heavier gravel and boulders instead of light mulch, wind-tolerant plants, and a patio cover or screen on the seating area.
  • HOA review: most homes here are in planned communities with architectural review. Send us your guidelines; we'll draw the plan, plant list and materials the committee asks for and wait for approval before work starts.

Permits and Fire Safety

Blacklake, The Woodlands and Cypress Ridge are unincorporated, so building permits for structures, gas lines and electrical work go through County Planning & Building. Eucalyptus groves and open land border parts of the Mesa; check your address on the State Fire Marshal's FHSZ map and keep the first five feet around the house noncombustible.
